Neil Mattson on the guitar and Shao Way Wu on the acoustic bass, this Friday from 7pm-9pm.
Shao Way Wu is a freelance jazz bassist and a Portland resident who grew up in Hong Kong. He moved to the Bay Area in 1971 at the age of fifteen. Shao Way has a business degree with an art minor at the University of San Francisco.
Neil Mattson is a musician, educator, and entrepreneur living in Portland, OR since 2006. Neil came to Portland to study as a graduate student of jazz performance at Portland State University with Darrell Grant and Charlie Gray. Neil has spent the past decade making and teaching music in Portland. In 2013 Neil started his business, Montavilla Guitar Studio, where he teaches guitar and mentors orther teachers seeking to grow as professionals music instructors. In 2014 Neil is a founding director of the nonprofit Montavilla Jazz Festival, whose mission is to highlight the Portland jazz scene and enrich the Montavilla Community to which he calls home. Neil is passionate about teaching and playing music and organizing in his community.
This event is free and the music will be preformed outside. Reservations are not required but gladly accepted.
